To set a home, obviously, several different pieces of design are needed. The furnishings are top of the list, of course. For each room, a group of pieces with very specific functions – or multi-functions – must be chosen.
But how do you know what kind of thing to buy in stores? Does it matter if the person chooses a table model or another for the room? Or from bed to bedroom? Yes, there is a difference! Find out more below!
Each room, a different group of furniture
Have you noticed the shape and proportions of each sector of your home? In the past, a bathroom was called a “bathroom”. That’s because before, in fact, it was set up in a common room. But, then things evolved.
It was broken down which activities would be done in a bathroom – its true function – and the equipment and furniture that would help in carrying it out. So, such an environment can become more compact. So, in short, each corner of the house is designed to have a function. There is the sector of food preparation, leisure, rest, body hygiene and more. And for each of these, a group of different furniture is designed.
In general, there are pieces produced exclusively for use in the kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and so on. But, others surprise for their multifunctionality!
Optimizing as much space as possible
A well done setting is actually quite complex in its planning. It is not enough to play a decorative piece here and another there. Every item added to space has to have a purpose, a use.
It can be supporting a device, like a TV, or serving as a shelter for personal belongings and household items, it doesn’t matter. The idea is to make the best use of the entire available area of the property – and preferably by optimizing the spaces.
Current developments usually have rooms with very small dimensions. This is because the valuation of the square meter in most cities has increased. In other words, every free corner has to be highly valued.
More than one activity can be assigned to the same space. In a living room, for example, you can watch TV, work, entertain friends and more. This expands on many possibilities!
Because not every empty area must be filled with any piece
Well, just because you decided to enhance your home environments in a different way, it doesn’t mean that every corner of the plant should be filled in anyway. In the same scenario there will be both leading and supporting, complementary pieces.
Some pieces will be wild, and will dictate the style of the entire decoration. Others will almost go unnoticed when you look. But, all will be important.
You need to think about what you want from the decoration and what you need to put in the rooms. The expression “less is more” will always be relevant! If you don’t have to, don’t add things to spaces.
Do not act on impulse, unthinkingly accumulating objects in the rooms. Sometimes it may be better to have a minimalist house than one that is out of harmony.
This is not to say that, when in doubt, it is better to leave the interiors of the house empty. Just study the possibilities beforehand to choose the right furniture for each sector – in the right size, style, color and finish.
The chosen decoration items need to enhance the property’s architecture, never compromise it. They cannot interfere with circulations, air flows, light incidences, or compete with other surrounding parts.
Because some pieces stand out more than others
Yes, there are pieces of furniture that will stand out immediately, right on the first pass. So, it’s better not to make anything come into competition with them – even because it will be a loss, for sure. That’s because they were designed, precisely, to be like that, protagonists, style dictators, focal points, wildcards.
And in this way they are recognized by the decorators, who do everything to value them in their proposals.
A simple piece of furniture can stand out in interior settings, and for several reasons. It could be due to a bold design, size, color, shine, or other special feature. None of these details should be ignored by the designer, as it will, of course, interfere with the assembly of the whole.
For example, a living room with a neon yellow sofa might look better with light gray walls – a current trend.
Wild and multifunctional furniture, an excellent investment
For interior decoration, certain furniture such as buffets, sofas, armchairs, ottomans, stools and more are called wildcards. And the reason for this has to do with everything mentioned above.
Now, what many of these pieces hide at first glance is that their value to environments is not only aesthetic, but functional. In fact, many have multifunctions, allowing the user to change the state of the room whenever they want.
So, think about a living room coffee table. It can be an important piece in a decor proposal. It will probably coordinate the layout distribution of this environment.
It will also determine the separation distance between the TV rack and the sofa. Also, eventually, if it has been prepared for it, it can be turned into a high dining table.
Multifunctionality is an excellent investment! There is a lot to be gained from this – much more than you can imagine. Small properties end up requiring that many different and complex activities be carried out in the same place – and sometimes even at the same time
That’s why knowing how to choose furniture for the home is so important. And there is no ideal standard! You’ll need to find what’s right for you!
Now that you’ve got all this information, just go shopping. Good luck with your choices!
